Reporters wanted for 2008,
 and photographers too.

The MWL website is entirely volunteer run.  Game recaps, photos and stats are what make the site interesting.  You can help by:

Photos:  Email photos and I'll try and post them.  I usually catch up on the weekends.  I take photos of most games in Coos Bay, but the sun isn't out a lot and if your team only has one trip to the coast, and it's a dark day, the pictures just don't 'pop'.  If you make a Coos Bay game and want me to shoot your kid (with a camera) grab me and let me know.  I have a 400mm lens on a digital SLR so it's like a 600mm lens on a 35mm.
1) I try and set up galleries for each team.
2) I usually give the teams that have contributing photographers and reporters copies of my photos at the end of the season. I also email 6 mega photo files to parents on request.

TEXT MESSAGING
   Game night by 9:00 please:

I'm trying text messaging this year.  I don't how to write it, but I can read it.  Text me at

EMAIL
Game night by 9:00 for scores and highlights. mwlnow@yahoo.com
Scores are enough...... scores allow me to update the standings the evening of the games.

Example: MHS 3 NBend 2  2R HR Reed, McClintock 9 k's 7 inns
Longer recaps are welcome too, in fact I love them.  But they usually come in past my bedtime and I don't post until the next evening.  They are usually much more detailed than what is in the papers and the players appreciate seeing their names for double plays, rbis, clutch hitting in pressure situations, squeeze plays, sac bunts, etc.
Some teams like separate web pages for their longer recaps, which I enjoy setting up and adding updates

Stats

I take my stats from the RG.  Often times the paper doesn't have the detail such as doubles, trips, dingers, etc in the box score.  Feel free to send me the info. mwlnow@yahoo.com

Through the years several teams have had assistant coaches or parent statisticians send me corrections to my league stats.  I know the phone in recaps to the RG are often times hurried and not entirely complete or accurate. I want to be as close to the home books as possible so I welcome corrections, even from individual parents - just make sure you saw it the way the statistician/coach saw it.

Pitching:  I encourage each team to try and find someone to recap pitchers performance - innings pitched to the thirds, k's, hits, bbs, runs, earned runs.  Lots of times pitcher's parents email to clarify my 'impossible to read, but everyone reads it' chart, as I just assign numbers based on the mood I am in.  Parent corrections are fine.  If you cause a fight with another pitcher's parent, I am not responsible.

Rosters

I'm trying to get rosters for printing programs for games like they do for basketball and football.  Baseball fans are watching a lot of future college and minor league players, maybe even someone who will make the 'Bigs'.  Royster, maybe?

If you have a pdf or excel version of your roster, please email it.  mwlnow@yahoo.com  I'll convert it, if needed, and post it in pdf.

MWL Alumni Updates
Apparently people like these pages as I get a lot of corrections.  If you know of former MWL players who are in college, minor or major league ball or got drafted, let me know.

If you know of old timers who went on and played at higher levels, let me know that too.  This website is a good place to capture your schools baseball history until the school sets up its own baseball history.  'm a little slow updating this page, but I usually get to it on a two week cycle.

Example of a long version recap from a school with it's own recap page - this reporter usually wrote three to five paragraphs.  I would normally get the recap game night or the next day and then post it to the teams recap page.  Good news for Colt fans, the reporter will be back..

Colts Even Series with Willamette,
4/16/07

Defense Turns Stingy as Thurston Beats Willamette 6 to 0.

Grant Willis tossed a seven hit shutout, and Kyle Hoover and Colin Schauermann traded off turning big double plays with each other as the Colts move to 3 and 2 to overtake the Wolverines in the standings.

After 2 and 1/2 scoreless innings the bottom of the order came alive for Thurston in the bottom of the third inning.  Jordan Branham singled to center and Willamette threw Schauermann's sac. bunt into right field to put runners on 2nd and 3rd bases with no outs.  Danny Urness' single up the middle scored Branham and after a wild pitch moved Urness to second, once again the Colts had runners at second and third with no outs.

Skip Spencer's single to center scored Schauermann and Urness giving Willis more than enough runs for the win.  Spencer also doubled and scored in the fifth inning as did Branham in the forth and Tyler Bradley in the seventh inning.

 Colt Statistical Highlights:
